I finally found one of my students, an avid gamer, who had heard of Minecraft...after she made the leap from my English pronunciation to her...
You can dig directly down .. but beware... if you dig down into lava there's nowhere to go! ;) Same goes for digging directly above you ... it's all fun and games until a big pile of gravel or lava falls on your head! ;)
ReplyDeleteNah - easier to just jump (space) and place a block beneath you when its time to climb back up. ;)
ReplyDeleteI tried both the 1-block shaft and the 2-block shaft. As Jo Kay says the 2-block shaft is a bit safer. I'd prefer ladders to climb out rather than filling in a shaft I just spent time digging. Of course if you're just mining it doesn't matter.

This is a great thread with practical value for all levels. I never got around to asking how to make a tall tower. Jump and place a block. Who'd a thunk it (now go and to it :-) Always learning
