A curious question here: As far as anyone knows are there oceans in MC?

A curious question here: As far as anyone knows are there oceans in MC? And if so, is it possible to make "multiple-day/night" crossings? Can larger ships be built..or can multiple rowboats be lashed together? I'm wondering about sailing off into the wide blue in search of new continents.
