April 2, 2019. The day G+ will die.

This evening mirella maddalena Carol Rainbow Heike Philp Dakotah Redstone and I worked on our EVOmc2019 town hall.

This evening mirella maddalena Carol Rainbow Heike Philp Dakotah Redstone and I worked on our EVOmc2019 town hall. We needed a whole lot of wood. Mirella gave us a good jump start as she'd planted some trees especially for the project but we still needed a lot more. Very quickly we ran out of bones to make bonemeal that we used to speed up the growth of the trees , so Dak set up a skeleton spawner and we spent some time killing skeletons and collecting their bones.

We made some good progress but we still have a lot of work to complete the build and decorate it, not to mention work on the surrounding area. Most probably it will remain a work in progress for as long as we all want to experiment with different ideas, the type of wood to use or the color of glass to put on the windows and different ideas of keeping baby zombies out of the place :)

We are planning to continue tomorrow evening UTC but everybody is welcome to work on it whenever they are interested and able to log in.

Here is the destination.

Here is the destination. Starting point 24k. Overland trek west by northwest. Eventually we'll reach a river. We'll make boats and head for this biome. We might need a few Minecraft days for this one, and Teacher Vance is still working on route planning, but if you want to help with that, meet me and Bobbi Bear at the 24k warp on the 1.12.2 Minecraft server at 1400 UTC, Friday Feb 1. All you need is a sense of adventure. We'll help equip you and build shelters en route. Hi Mircea Patrascu

Hi Mircea Patrascu . I've been thinking about the discussions of this year's sessions and G+ shutting down. Are the discussions being pulled automatically into blogger or will you have to do that manually again?

Thank you for all the wonderful and constructive feedback!

Thank you for all the wonderful and constructive feedback! It was really good to be able to run a lesson, get feedback and reflect upon it. There's a lot to discuss here but I'll start with analyzing in-game L2 learner interaction. I noticed there wasn’t much discussion going on during resources gathering because Mattie and Emanual spread out the work. Mattie asked Emanual to get wood and he told Emanual we was going to mine.

They had more interaction during collaborative building. Basically, Mattie came up with the idea on the fly. He asked emanual to look at Dak’s pig and suggested that they copy Dak’s build. Later they modified it, built a body, a tail, and four legs with hooves, two on each side as if being served on a silver platter.

M: Emanual, I have an idea?
E: What is it?
M:Just look, that’s a pig over there!
E:I know that.
M: Wait. Oh my God. One, two, three, four….
M: Emanual, just look at the pig thing.
E: I thought we’re making a full sized pig.
E: We’ve got 10 minutes to build that pig.
M: I’m gonna go count the blocks, okay?
E: Okay.

He went to Dak’s pig and started counting the blocks. Emanual stayed at their Blue Team building area and followed Mattie’s instructions “Nine on the very bottom...one straight line.” Emanual confirmed what he did “A line of nine blocks.”

M: One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. (Counted again)
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine.
Nine on the very bottom. Destroy every block.
One straight line.
E:One, two, three, four, five, six, seve, eight, nine. A line of nine blocks.
M: One two three four five. Destroy four blocks.
E: Destroying four blocks.
M: I have an idea…
E: Done…

During the building process, both Mattie and Emanual constantly evaluated their build, making sure it looked right. Emanual would question their build: “Are you sure this is how it looks like? Doesn’t look very good!” Mattie would fix it. Then Emanual suggested “It needs one touch to it.” Mattie responded that he noticed they needed coal blocks for the final touch.

M: Okay, we need something dark.
E: Are you sure this is how it looks like? Doesn’t look very good. There we go!
M: Because you started building!
E: Okay, let’s just go! Go! Go! Make some more things!
E: We’re making the pig face up there.
M: duh, duh, duh…(singing)
E: That looks good!

M: Oh, no, I forgot.
E: That looks good! It needs one touch to it.
M: Yes, I noticed that we need something very important. We need coal block.
E: Mattie, Mattie, be fast!
M: We need three coal blocks.
E: I’m gonna get coal.
M: What are you doing.
E: You’ve already got coal?
M: Yes.
E: We’re doing pretty good Mattie?
Anybody like our pig? We’re making the face up there!

As an EFL learner, Mattie does not have much chance to converse in English in Taiwan. The speaking activities held in class at school are mainly role play or skit based on the dialogues in the textbook. Students are encouraged to come up with different endings to the dialogue or skit, but these activities are designed for more controlled practice. It is true that Mattie's learned of lot from watching Youtubers play minecraft and reading books about Minecraft, and I believe these helped tremendously in building his listening/reading comprehension and receptive language skills. Speaking English to communicate ideas was very difficult for him at the beginning. Although he understood a lot of the contents of those YouTube videos when he was seven, he was not able to converse effortlessly during his first year in EVO 2017. Therefore, this is why I valued Minecraft as a world that kids can connect with one another. This would be a debate on whether there should be pushed output or what role does Merrill Swain's "Comprehensive Output" Hypothesis play in second language acquisition. Swain proposed that CO facilitates second language learning in ways that differ from and enhance input due to the mental processes connected with the production of language.... to be continued.

When I went to creative today I found some beautiful and interesting new builds.

When I went to creative today I found some beautiful and interesting new builds. A beautiful tower and a huge sphere with a musical train on top.

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone. We finally have a design for our EVO Minecraft 2019 Town Hall. It's a design that looks nice, goes with our area but more importantly one that everyone can easily help building. So, please drop in and join us or help by contributing to the building in any way you like,by building, collecting or crafting building and decoration resources etc.

Here is a video showing how the original creator of the design built it and a picture of the space we cleared for it with a sample build.

My birthday MC gift from Dakotah Redstone! A beautiful house! Thank YOU!

My birthday MC gift from Dakotah Redstone! A beautiful house! Thank YOU!
I loved spending time with you decorating it, Dak.
I changed MC to my native language (Portuguese) for the first time and I realized that I don't know how to say most of them in my own language.. so I'm learning them in Portuguese now. In order to learn it fast, following Dakota's suggestion, I'm labelling the items around the house. There is a number of possibilities in-game for language learning, but also for teachers to create activities in-game.

Teacher Vance and Bobbi Bear have created a Doodle Poll for the times we can be available in Minecraft 1.12.2 on Saturday Jan 26 for an hour or two between 02:00 and 06:00 UTC

You can find the poll here, hopefully times given in your time zone (starting at 2 am UTC, 8 pm in Chicago): https://doodle.com/poll/ae98udezap5ce5ib.

The time FRAME is 02:00 to 06:00 UTC on Sat Jan 26
That time frame where you are is
https://www.timeanddate.com/worldclock/fixedtime.html?msg=Sat+Jan+26+Teacher+Vance+and+Bobbi+Bear+arranging+Sandbox+Adventure+in+EVO+Minecraft+1.12.2&iso=20190126T02&p1=1440&ah=4

If you'd like to join us, indicate your availability in the poll,
we'll see it, and we'll schedule a time we will definitely be in Minecraft when we know that the most people can be there.

We can either meet with no plan, or if you would like an adventure, we can explore the jungle mansion near the spawn point or go looking for desert temples. Teacher Vance knows where two are, at least one of which is likely unexplored (hence not yet looted).

PLEASE NOTE we will come Minecraft ONLY IF someone responds to the poll and indicates the time they will be there

So far everything we have done has been in survival mode...or even extreme survival model.

So far everything we have done has been in survival mode...or even extreme survival model. But is survival mode really more conducive to L2 learning (or learning in general) than creative mode? It seems to me that certain activity types, for example, group builds, would actually be much more suited to and interesting in creative mode with "infinite" resources available.

What do others think?

How do we meet up in Minecraft?

How do we meet up in Minecraft? One way is to set Doodle polls. I might try that shortly (for it to work though, people have to respond to the polls :-(.

Another way is to just go online and see who is there. We had no event scheduled for last night, but that's what we did at around 1300 UTC, just went online. Michiyo Toshima was there and she said she was ready to learn to build a house. So we started building one. Dakotah Redstone and Jane Chien caught wind of what was going on and dropped in to lend a hand. See pics of the result here: http://missions4evomc.pbworks.com/w/page/130258521/2019_Live_Events#WedJan2313001500UTCEVOMinecraftMOOChelpsMichiyobuildahome

So there's another idea for a project. Would any participants like help building a house in survival mode on the 1.12.2 server? Or anywhere for that matter? Just tell us when you'd like to have a team of builders come and help.

Hi, my name is Rosa. I come from Varese, in Italy. I'm a primary school teacher, like Mirella, but I teach at another school in the city. I've just started playing Minecraft and I have a lot to learn. I don't speak English very well at the moment. I try and hope to become a little bit better. I thank Carol Rainbow who invited me to join this community.

As we move into the second week (or is it already the third?) I'd like to see more discussion of how specifically MC can be a tool for L2 acquisition. So far EVOMC (both this year and last year) seems to be more about learning to play the game and less about how to apply it to language learning contexts.

We are lucky to have several participants who are themselves both teachers and on-going English language learners. That's great! Their voices, opinions, and experiences with MC as an instrument for language learning are especially valuable. I'd like to hear from Mirella, from Michiyo, and from our participants in Vietnam, as well as any other "silent participants" in the community.

In particular, I'd like to see discussion of use of MC for L2 learning in adult contexts.

Teacher Vance and Bobbi Bear plan to hold a Guided practice on the EVO Minecraft MOOC 1.12.2 server today Jan 22 from around 13:30 (we hope to get back home in time for it) until 15:00 max (bedtime) for anyone with questions or who wants some guided practice or who just happens to be there. We'll be in Minecraft 1.12.2 and in Discord.

I have updated http://missions4evomc.pbworks.com/2019_Live_Events with the information.

Although there are no further events planned for this week that I can see, and keeping in mind that PBWorks was down briefly this morning, please be aware that there is a backup/planning space here:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1EBBpjp6ofpfHz6i2eNVBEYBXXPLMgL3BEnBzZP9Deso/edit?usp=sharing

I hope that moderators will update that space with their events, and that someone will update the live events page as well.

Happy Minecrafting

Sunday, January 20, 2019

Good morning everyone.

Good morning everyone. We have begun week 2 in EVO Minecraft MOOC, and we've got off to a great start. Our 5 weeks are patterned after Dave Cormier's 5 stages of success in MOOCs. It is assumed people are going to need time to ORIENT, and that's what most of you were doing our first week. Week 2 is more of the same except we expect to hear more of you DECLARE your positions here with regard to #evomc19. Next week we NETWORK, and by then our true participants should be with us in the game. Track our program week by week here http://missions4evomc.pbworks.com/

Moderators Dakotah Redstone, OliveTree Lighthouse, Don Carroll, Rose Bard, Barbara Stevens, Jane Chien, myself, and perhaps others I didn't detect have been on the server every day this week helping participants get into Minecraft and start learning how it works. We expect other moderators to propose more live events as we get rolling in the course, and you can find these as they are declared on our live events page, http://missions4evomc.pbworks.com/w/page/130258521/2019_Live_Events.

Note that there is a live event tonight Jan 21 at 1400 UTC on the 1.12.2 server. If it will be your first time, we have set up tutorials to help you get connected here: http://missions4evomc.pbworks.com/w/page/130258518/2019_Server_Info. If you just want to watch, look for the stream on my channel: https://www.youtube.com/user/vancestev

Meet us in world and we'll guide you through the rest. If you're late to an event we can send you a teleport request, which you can accept to join us where we are by following instructions you'll see in the Minecraft text window.

To learn to swim, you need to get wet. If you have any questions, just ask us, we have responded to every dialog started here in this community. But most importantly, we look forward to meeting you in Minecraft. See you there.

Teacher Vance proposes a #learning2gether streamed event in the EVO Minecraft MOOC 1.12.2 server on Mon Jan 21 at 1400 UTC. This will be a Wilderness adventure trek to Black_Kitten's village to help develop the seaport there. We meet at the Birch House and push the button in the Wilderness Warp closet to be transported to the place in the picture below. Then we head west where we hope to be met by Black_Kitten herself, a.k.a. Oleksandra Sladkovska

All who wish to join us are welcome. If you join us, don't worry, we'll take good care of you, but I will attempt to stream the event for anyone who would like to sit back and watch, and of course that will make a recording, which I'll post later, if all works well and nothing gets blown up by a creeper.

More information, times where you are, and so on, at the link provided.

Hello Everybody

Hello Everybody,

I hope I'm not too late to join in on the conversations. My history with Minecraft has its bumps, and I am really hoping this MOOC will show me how we can use regular, vanilla Minecraft in the classroom. Before Microsoft bought Mojang and Teacher Gaming's rights, I created a 501(c)(3) so that I could use MinecraftEDU. Microsoft does not recognize nonprofits as being worthy of using the EDU version so my nonprofit is pretty useless at the moment. It is funny because I created the nonprofit so homeschooling families could access MCedu, yet when they bought the rights from Teacher Gaming, Microsoft lets homeschooling groups have access to the EDU version, but not nonprofits. I want to convince my IT person that we should still build the virtual computer lab even if we can't create a MCedu server for it. I need to learn how to create worlds that let students learn things.

Long story longer- I did a Masters in ED Tech at Boise State University online. I was remotely familiar with MC before then, but had no clue how powerful it is until I took a class that showed us how to use MC, WoW, and SeecondLife in classrooms. I have become addicted to digging holes and building really crappy houses. I don't fight monsters. I don't know any of the lingo our kids use because I am somewhat oblivious to all the fun they have in MC. OH! I even have a Tynker account so I can learn how to make MC mods. I sort-of learned how to spontaneously place sheep in places and was thrilled to just click and there was a sheep.

I am hoping the course will pull me out of my tiny world and into the greater world where I know MC can be used to educate kids.

Wow!

Wow! That was something else. We managed to "survive" for 5 days. However, we took some casualties and we sure didn't have Seal Team coordination. : )

It was too hectic for me to take any photos and while we communicated a LOT we were also talking over each other and often engaged in overlapping conversations much of the time (which is a possible feature of group interaction anytime there are more than three participants).

One failing (if we can consider it a failing) is that we never had any clear objective other than just surviving. I suppose that's OK.

At a memorial

At a memorial

The world of words is smaller today.
I cannot say I remember her because I don't remember much.
I cannot proclaim her my favorite poet that is someone else.
I read, perhaps reread, wonderful examples of her work scattered among the bouquets of superlatives,
left by others who are more familiar with her life's work.
What tribute, what thanks, what consolation can I leave?
Only tears,
and an oft repeated resolve to add more poetry to the world...
all too soon forgotten in the rain.

I am jumping in with great trepidation and excitement!

I am jumping in with great trepidation and excitement! This is my first time in a MOOC as a student and my first intro to Minecraft. I'm especially interested in discovering how Minecraft can be used to teaching. Never occurred to me!

I'm an educational consultant and teacher trainer (Pre-K-12, college, and Adult Education). One of the hats I wear is to moderate a large reading and writing community of practice among adult educators everywhere.

I'm scared but anxious to get started!

I asked about this last year.

I asked about this last year. Can someone direct me to non-English language Minecraft servers? I'd like to try playing in a language that I have only the most minimal competence in, for example, Dutch or Arabic.

As an English speaker (and English teacher) I'm at a huge disadvantage in understanding how learning and playing MC can develop language ability.

I'd be interested in joining an adventurous group willing to wander out with NO GEAR WHATSOEVER.

I'd be interested in joining an adventurous group willing to wander out with NO GEAR WHATSOEVER. This would be "Bear Grylls" style survival mode! No diamond tools. (No tools at all.) No armor. No potions. No "cheats." No inventory. No nothin. Sleeping in holes. Eatin' raw meat if we have to. Everyone starts out equal with nothing but bare hands.

I'll watch your back; you watch mine.

Missed the first two days 'play' and tried to get in today but i'm stuck because I couldn't get in with my old version (10.2 - too old) and can't get in with the update (13.2) - it tells me the server is too old. How can I get the correct version?

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!

We all have different levels of knowledge and skills when it comes to playing Minecraft and using it with students. Also, the reason each of us decided to learn and experiment with it may also vary, and I am very curious :)

Could I ask everybody to share

1- how or why they decided to learn Minecraft and use it with students
2- those who have been using it with students, what was the first time you used it with your students like, what did your students think?

Hi

Hi ! I'm Ashley, an English teacher in Taiwan. I came across this community via ISTE website. I'm very interested in using new technology in my classroom since it often works very well for my students. I have studied how to use Minecraft a little bit, but still have problem getting started. Do I need to download the Minecraft App first? Or log in the online platform?

Besides, does it work well for second language learners?

Hello, I'm Ceren and I am from Turkey. Currently, I am in the US to work on my dissertation.

Hello!

Hello! I discovered this community by chance and was excited to do so! I'm a Minecraft Global Mentor which means I'm committed to helping educators around the world find ways to support learning using Minecraft: Education Edition.

I'm not certain, but it looks like you're using Java edition for this awesome MOOC? Would the group like to learn more about how the Education Edition supports teachers in integrating game-based learning into their classrooms? Are there already mentors here? Say hi!

Otherwise, I applaud this community for its work as this sounds like an interesting and engaging experience for everybody involved!

Welcome to Athens my foot!

Welcome to Athens my foot! I found myself a nice desert (after two nights in game and surviving a flaming zombie attack) and a village only to find a sign reading "Welcome to Athens" on a well.

And there was a button on a gold plate which I foolishly pushed. This transported me instantly back to the original spawn point with no way (that I could find) back. : ( . So two days wasted.

Remind me in the future to steer clear of all zombies and shiny buttons.

LIVE EVENT on the Aquatic Server

LIVE EVENT on the Aquatic Server

Greetings! We can't wait to meet everyone in-world! Dakotah gave me a tour inside a big creeper structure he built. We had a lot of fun testing it out!! He's planning to host the "Share the Love" event tomorrow. Here's some more information:

"Share the Love" will be held on Monday, 14 January 2019, 13:00 UTC

Several times during yesterday's play session I "was transported" (vs. "transported myself") suddenly to a new locale. In effect I was yanked out of what I was doing and who I was doing it with. This was very disorienting and disconcerting. At first, I thought this might be a glitch in the game, but I think it may have been Mattie using his "magic" on me. Later in the game he asked if Michiyo and I wanted to visit his diamond mine and when we said yes we were immediately zapped there.

I think I would prefer that this not be an option. We can already teleport to another player's location...even without the tpa request...which I also find disconcerting. Maybe I value my privacy too highly. : ) .

speaking of disoriented... (non-sequitur) that doesn't look right - I'm a "visual" speller...

A beginning is a very delicate time ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZ7DkBFjLRI ). I remember growing up; when we weren't avoiding being stepped on by giant reptiles, we were gathered around the fire listening to stories. Around a certain time in the fall of each year, you would push the button on the storybox and the little imaginary beings would act out one of my favorite stories, one full of good truths. There was this young girl with a tiny dog who after a great storm found herself far from home, disoriented. She had to begin all over in a strange place, not knowing "how things worked"/"who was who"/"what was what"... in short she had to figure out what she was "supposed" to do.

A ways into the story, there is a spot where there is a big loud head, "telling" her all sorts of "important" things. The magic phrase "pay no attention to the man behind the curtain" is uttered ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ivRKfwmgrHY ), and it is the key to unlocking "hidden knowledge". Now, I don't remember all the details of the story, and I am certain that I am unsure of how it relates to what is going on here... but I do know, it IS a magic phrase.

What I have figured out, (if I remember correctly, never a good bet) is that there is noise, and there is truth. The "trick" to finding your way (to wherever your destination, be it "home", OR "out there") is to be able to sniff out the difference. And quite often the first step is just deciding where you "want" to go. "You" get to pick.

It IS kind of "vague and undefined" sometimes... LEAP on the opportunity to fill in the spaces... with YOUR choices. :)

Just what are we dealing with here?

[giant hand picks up the wolf, holding the head lightly between thumb and forefinger... ]

[squeezes gently, checking consistency of "fill"...]

[giant hand flops the stuffed toy unceremoniously onto the cold white Formica desktop, sound of an overhead light clicking, scene is "well-lit" now...]

[off screen we hear a familiar snapping sound of someone putting on rubber gloves...]

[on screen we see giant hand, now gloved, pushing the frost-blue fur on the back of the head around to reveal a zipper... ]

[giant hand pulls open the zipper revealing a mass of spongy grey filling inside the head, which conceals something, something from the past which might shed some light on the mystery surrounding the object ( https://sites.google.com/view/briteanvil/page )... ]

Hi!

Hi! I’m Daiana, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. I’ve used Minecraft for a couple of years with my students and they love it. I joined this MOOC to get inspiration and new ideas to continue using Minecraft.

Hey, all!

Hey, all! I join, year after year, hoping that this year will be the one where I am able to participate more fully. This always falls in our testing window. So I'm not sure you'll see much of me. But here's hoping. I teach beginning English Learners in Vermont, USA.

I everyone I am from Ecuador.

I everyone I am from Ecuador. This is my first time for me playing minecraft. I hope to learn how to play and how to help my students improve their English playing.
I will need a lot of help.

Hi, I'm Michiyo, from Japan.

Hi, I'm Michiyo, from Japan. I've logged in for the first time this year. I noticed I had almost forgotten how to play, but thanks to abufletcher, I could learn again,. I hope I could do smoething better than the last year.

Thank you.

Michiyo joined us for the first time this year.

Michiyo joined us for the first time this year. She participated last year as a complete beginner in MC. Both Mattie and I ran her (literally) through the basics so she'll be up to speed soon enough.

Hi all

Hi all,

I'm jkuhn72 in game and am one of the founding moderators of the EVO Minecraft MOOC and a player of Minecraft since late 2010. Gaming has been a hobby for years and I've been fortunate to integrate it into my work as a teacher and teacher-educator most recently as the author of the TESOL Games and Learning blog.

It's great to see the community continue to grow each year. For new members the best advice is to jump in and explore. The sooner you join us in game the sooner it all makes sense! While our community may seem frenetic it has developed organically and was designed to mimic the way our students engage with games and game communities - by learning through doing and where everyone has expertise to share. We can't wait to see what you bring to our little world!

Hi Everyone

Hi Everyone,
I teach at the University of Warwick specialising in ICT in TESOL. I'm back again but still feeling like a newbie - I learn a little more every year though and when I have time to participate I love the community feel of this MOOC. Looking forward to making new friends and meeting old ones!

Hi, in game I'm known as "abufletcher" and I enjoy a room with a view. This is my second year with EVOMC, the first of which I spent running (and swimming) in the wilderness, clearing out blackness on the dynamic map. Below is a screenshot of the mountain retreat I just built "a couple of days' ride" from the wilderness portal set by Dak (Dakotah).

In real life (if you can call it that), I'm an EFL teacher (officially professor) who has worked in Japan for the last 22 years. I don't use MC with students, but my specialty involves interaction analysis so MC presents another venue for observations.

Strangely though I'm not very good at interacting in MC.

Hello.

Hello. I am Cathy and I have been teaching Minecraft in our school for 3 years. I learned about Minecraft from my grandson and when they asked if anyone would be able to teach a class in school, I said I would give it a try. This year I teach 16 students for 3x a week for 12 weeks, and then change each 12 weeks. I also do after school sessions for 15 3rd-8th grade for 1x a week for 8 weeks. I enjoy playing Minecraft myself and look forward to working with all of you.

Hi! I'm Olfa and waiting forward to learning about minecraft.

I noticed that "no one" has registered, as of Jan.

I noticed that "no one" has registered, as of Jan. 10th... with only a few days to go... (including someone with the initials DR) :O When I went to fill out the form I perhaps uncovered a "contributing factor" (?)

from page 5/17 of the syllabus...
"Mission 2 - Complete your enrollment in EVO Minecraft MOOC 2019
The most important mission is to ENROLL in the course by filling in the Google form at
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdDRVdJqCoQ9Bw36lZvk6M3nVp_-W4CCATSo3DLSd2tU07SyQ/viewform
Same link, shorter more memorable URL: https://tinyurl.com/evomc19-register

Here you provide us your Minecraft username so we can whitelist you on our server
Enrollment is not complete until you submit this form
(meaning, you won’t be able to play, I mean learn with us at our Minecraft server whose IP address is mc.evomc.net)."

Ask me how how long it took me to find the link for the "most important mission"? (and I knew what I was looking for) :)

Could/should we perhaps move this somewhere more prominent and give it more "spotlight" or emphasis? (at this point my inner chicken little is channeling 72 point bold red Century Headline, but that's just me)

Also I have heard at least one person filling in the form, whose name did not appear in the output data... do we possibly have previous years registrations forms available?

Hi everyone.

Hi everyone. I'm Teacher Vance when you see me in Minecraft. I was one of the primary founders of EVO MInecraft MOOC in 2015 and many of my co-moderators have been with us each year since then. When I say each year I don't just mean January-February; we work I mean play, ok collaborate, year round to keep this community vibrant and fresh for when newcomers arrive in #evomc19

If you are just joining us, or already joined but planning to play with us this year, please introduce yourself here and then fill in our form, which we need for you to do so that we can see who's with us this year and whitelist you on our server. FInd the form at: https://tinyurl.com/evomc19-register

One handy link for this session is http://missions4evomc.pbworks.com/. Explore the right-hand sidebar there for quick links to the session, and find what you should be doing each week. You can also find there when our live sessions will be, as we schedule them week to week.

The MAIN thing is you should be joining us in Minecraft. We use the classic / java version, and you have to purchase a login from https://minecraft.net/ which works with any version (one time $30 purchase, unlimited software downloads both client and server side after that).

Sorry about the cost but it's not for us, it's for the tool we and so many other educators are using these days. When we meet in Minecraft, we'll show you how to use it and try to make you feel at home there. Feel free to ask us here or in our Google Groups or Google Classroom spaces if there is anything we can do to help

I pull his string and he says "Hi, my name is Dakotah!" :)

Hi everyone, I am a retired teacher from the UK, I am looking forward to meeting you all again during this year's session.
I really would like to learn about enchantments!
See you all soon

Hello, everyone!

Hello, everyone! My name's Alex, and I am an online English teacher and teacher trainer, as well as a Minecraft enthusiast. I mainly teach adults, but I used to teach kids and teens, and at the time used Minecraft as a way of motivation and creativity booster. I haven't played in a while, but ready to jump in and help others as well as get ideas for further teaching and playing.
I usually play Minecraft with different mods. The last one I tried is Sevtech by Sevadus (if you know what I'm talking about), and I got to age 1 in it.
I love building houses and farms, and different buildings, and renovating villages.
Waiting for instructions and really glad to be here! :)
